The University of Barcelona's psychology department defines genogram as, a graphic representation (in the form of a family tree) of the basic information of at least three generations of a family. The ecomap is essentially a diagram of a social 'solar system', in which a family genogram is placed in the position of the sun, at the center, and other important people and institutions in their life space are depicted with circles around the center, like planets around the sun.
